Despite sporting a long hair and unkempt beard combination that your average hobo would perhaps dismiss as rather scruffy, Wojtek Godzisz is a singer/songwriter capable of banging out the odd stellar pop tune or two.  As former songwriter with teen indie rockers Symposium, Godzisz is here striking out as a solo artist in his own right, replacing the old punk pop stylings with a more heart-warming and considered approach to songwriting.

BURNING IDEALS is a six song mini LP that proves Wojtek Godzisz as a singer/songwriter of snappy pop songs, his sound pitched somewhere between the snappy folk of Ben Kweller and Ben Lee and the more spirited pop of Weezer.  Title track BURNING IDEALS is a semi acoustic affair that sets things off in suitably idealistic fashion; upbeat melodicism sung over sprightly guitar chords whilst the Weezer-esque I WILL GIVE YOU NOTHING is a noisier affair that points more towards the Symposium days.  The slow burning SUN IS UP builds from tender nursery rhyme verses to explosive emo choruses whilst the pysch-folk of JEALOUS HEART is perhaps this sets standout moment; an infectiously joyous chorus built around jangly guitar chords and hypnotic backing vocals.

A strong indication that Wojtek Godzisz could well be standing on the verge of wonderful things, BURNING IDEALS is a collection of songs that manage to charm and beguile from start to finish.

Formerly the main songwriter and a founding member of late ’90s teen punk tearaways Symposium, Wojtek Godzisz was coaxed out of self-imposed exile to sign to Tigertrap Records in 2006. Less punky, more heartachingly infectious, his new material is a triumphant step forward.
