PLAYLOUDERECORDINGS TRACKLISTING Introduction Kid Gloves Ghost Stephen Firecracker Brother In Conflict Easy Future Pt 1 Every Day Real Life Version Blood Red Blood
Another of those hotly tipped US alt-rock outfits, Voxtrot are the latest band to have wowed audiences at SXSW and CMJ, running parallels with previous critical darlings like The Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene and Tapes 'N Tapes. Like those aforementioned bands, Voxtrot are another thrilling and vital sounding proposition, all ragged guitar work, joyous melodies and spine tingling goodness. With their debut album, the self titled VOXTROT, the Austin, Texas five piece deliver a record that delivers a solidly satisfying collection of driving indie rock tunes. Opener INTRODUCTION is the perfect middle ground between Belle And Sebastian and Pavement, orchestral loveliness bookened by ragged guitar work and cracked, impassioned vocal barks, yelps and croons galore. KID GLOVES builds from the self same starting point to an anthemic eruption of windmilling power chords and life affirming choruses. With GHOST, Voxtrot successfully take the piano balladeering of Coldplay and take it in US alternative rock directions ala Modest Mouse or Death Cab For Cutie. In either a brave or foolhardy move, VOXTROT emits the bands early works of genius such as MOTHERS, SISTERS, DAUGHTERS & WIVES in favour of almost entirely new material, an indication that this is a band with the confidence and songs to go the long haul. Songs such as FIRECRACKER and EASY prove this to be the case, Voxtrot delivering anthemic indie rock with disarming ease. BLOOD RED BLOOD is another ragged, jagged work of wonder; an impressive indie rock clatter that sounds like Pavement cross bred with Belle And Sebastian; a swell of romantic melodicism, orchestral majesty and spiralling guitar noise. Imagine Arcade Fire without the Springsteen infatuation and you’ll be somewhere close to where Voxtrot are coming from here; likewise FIRECRACKER is another healthy indication that all the hype might just be justified this time round. An energetic explosion of spiralling guitar excursions and cracked, enigmatic vocal tics that sees Voxtrot making impressive sounding noises. Joyous indie rock that somehow makes life seem just that little bit better, Voxtrot are a band you really need in your life right now; VOXTROT is the perfect introduction to this wonderful band.
BIOGRAPHY
With one foot in the library and the other on the dancefloor, Voxtrot combine classic 60’s pop (think Love and Left Banke) with the heady, subversive sounds of 80’s Britain and still come out ahead of their time. Originally conceived as am outlet for vocalist Ramesh Srivastava to record a handful of songs he had written, it soon became apparent that Voxtrot was meant to be more than a home recording project. The band has toured the US throughout most of 2005 in support of their Raised By Wolves EP, turning heads at SXSW, CMJ and SF Popfest.
