TOO NICE RECORDINGS
If previous material has suggested Vib Gyor as a band cross pollinating Coldplay and Sigur Ros, latest release THE SECRET EP finds them shifting their sound more in a Radiohead meets Oasis direction. That is to say that this time round Vib Gyor are opting for a more muscular and immediate sounding noise, replacing the more shimmering guitar aspect of their work with big rock riffs and anthemic choruses.
Title track, THE SECRET sees Vib Gyor continuing to impress as they bash out another slice of epic stadium rock with all the self confidence and assuredness of a band surely born to become global rock stars. This is spine tingling stuff, singer Dave Fendick delivers a high pitched croon somewhere between Tom Yorke and Jeff Buckley whilst the band go about the business of creating the kind of epic rock experience that lesser bands can only daydream about. Elsewhere, SCANNERS is another confident sounding slice of anthemic rock that finds Vib Gyor demanding your utmost attention whilst ULTIMATUM is a return to their more ethereal roots, shimmering riffs and post rocking guitar eruptions that see the band continuing the work of the sadly defunct Hope Of The States.
Another effortlessly glorious release from Vib Gyor, THE SECRET EP may find the band taking a more aggressive and anthemic approach but they're none the less spine tingling and special for that.
BIOGRAPHY
Vib Gyor are due to release their second single on the 5th March - THE SECRET taken from their forthcoming EP was recorded by Paul Corkett (Muse, Radiohead, The Cure...) in his Studios in Bath. It is currently receiving airplay in the UK (BBC6 Music & XFM). In the USA the band were recently tipped as 'most likely to succeed in 2007' by Britsound and the single is already causing a stir with plays on Indie 103, KRNK and WEQK.
In an era where music has been processed and formulated to oblivion, Vib Gyor are signposting a new way forward. Combining the intensity of Radiohead with the subtle soundscapes of Sigur Ros, Vib Gyor have become purveyors of the finest atmospheric, explosive rock. With shimmering guitars, pounding drums and aching, sweeping vocals, they project a rich, anthemic, yet totally original sound.
Frustrated with everyday life, the Leeds-based band formed in 2004 through the renowned Leeds Music Scene website. Industry recognition and public acclaim followed a breathtaking performance at Manchester's In The City music convention. This year the band has been invited back to headline one of the biggest nights of the event - Club Fandango. They recently played much-coveted slots at Glastonbury's Late n Live and Leftfield Stages.
Stateside, interest has escalated after an intriguing piece in Entertainment Weekly. The article sparked mass excitement amongst labels, publishers and radio presenters alike, leading to an interview and acoustic session of San Diego station 91X's The Big Break, a slot normally reserved for US talent.
The undisputed highlight of 2006 so far have played with some of the best bands in the country and built a loyal fan base across the globe. An immense online following has culminated in 28,000 fans (and growing) on Myspace alone, ranking them in the top twenty most popular indie bands in the UK.
The undisputed highlight of 2006 so far was being asked to perform at the Launch night of XFM Manchester with Goldfrapp at the Manchester Ritz to a sell-out crowd of 2000. The response was overwhelming. As a result, the band was immediately booked in to record an XFM live session this June.
Vib Gyor release their debut single FALLEN on Too Nice Recordings on July 17th 2006. Produced by Mike Cave at Liverpool's Parr Street Studios, the song is receiving airplay on both sides of the Atlantic, including an interview and acoustic session on San Diego station 91Xs The Big Break, a slot normally reserved for US talent. On British shores, XFM Manchester recently chose the song as one of the best new tracks in the UK.
On both sides of the Atlantic, comparisons have been made with artists including Jeff Buckley and U2. Counting these musicians as influences alongside The Pixies, Pink Floyd and Flaming Lips, the band consists of Dave Fendick (vocals, acoustic guitar), Zane Keenan (keyboards, guitar, backing vocals), Johnny Mulroy (guitar and effects), Jonny Hooker (drums) and James Heggie (bass guitar). They have produced a catalogue of 25 songs to date, created entirely on Zane Keenan's home computer system.
With intense live performances and ambitious recordings, Vib Gyor offer the Radiohead generation an essential addition to its CD collection.
