BAD SNEAKERS ALBUM
TRACKLISTING Way To My Heart End Of Our Love Affair Obviously tackling things from the same direction as Little Barrie, The Sugars are a band delivering tight sounding RnB that evokes images of Booker T & The MG's, The Ronettes and healthy doses of Northern Soul.
New single WAY TO MY HEART, doesn't quite live up to the obvious influences though, The Sugars never quite injecting that raw soul spirit into their work, a band ultimately sounding more like a watered down imitation than the definitive article. WAY TO MY HEART is a little too studied and rigid to completely convince, a case of close but no cigar.
A decent stab at dirty sounding RnB, WAY TO MY HEART is an enjoyable enough pastiche, but The Sugars lack that extra special magic needed to really shine here.
BIOGRAPHY
'This love lost three found each other humming dirty Jackie Wilson and Sonics 45's down by the riverbank. Imagine 50's street corner harmonies colliding headlong with a tricked out hot-rod. All crashing cymbals with a clutch bag of distortion and high heels in tow. This knockout trio of fuzzed up, doo-wop sweethearts kick out bluesy duets of heartache and jealousy. Their only male studies the vocal arts of Bobby Bland, their teenage siren takes drumming lessons from Detroit's finest while the magic number is made up by a sugary voice so sweet she'll rot your teeth. Live, they throb to an undercurrent of the siren's kick-drum while the remaining two light up the stage with their high voltage chemistry. Belt up and hang on tight. Their saccharine ways will bleed themselves straight into your heart.....'
