Taking generous cues from the Krautrock of Neu!, the art rock of The Velvet Underground and the feedback drenched wonder of The Jesus And Mary Chain; Cambridge based three piece The Resistance make a sound that imagines Primal Scream around the time of Evil Heat and takes that into strange and intoxicating new directions.
The aptly named SONG FOR NICO finds The Resistance laying their cards on the table from the get go; a dreamlike slice of dark art rock that sounds for all intents and purposes like a long lost Velvet Underground song; the female vocals eerily reminiscent of the songs namesake. The instrumental ALTITUDE PLUS SPEED EQUALS is a pitch black slice of Krautrock that sounds like Neu!, Kraftwerk and Boards Of Canada having a heated debate over how many of the bands 23 effects pedals and 87 drum sequencers to use first, whilst the atmospheric rumble of JUST LIKE VELIMIR KHLEBNIKOV SAID sees The Resistance delving further into dark and intoxicating sonic territory. Climaxing with the beautifully lush PICTURES OF THE SUN, the resistance recall the brilliance of the Primals epic Higher Than The Sun; here reimagined as if written and recorded by My Bloody Valentine, Spriritualized and Explosions In The Sky; a stunning and sublime piece of work.
A complex, beautiful and intoxicating sounding band, The Resistance make music that takes elements of all the bands influences and rebuilds them into something fresh, invigorating and sublime. A DEEP HIT OF CLEAR LIGHT is an EP that is steeped in the epic, four songs that showcase the sublime brilliance of The Resistance to staggering effect.
