Clearly in thrall to the alt rocking neo psychedelic wonders of the likes of the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev and The Polyphonic Spree, Watford four piece The Electric Cinema are a band aiming to bring about the same sense of aural wonder and sundrenched warmth.
For anyone who's been basking in the warm sonic joy of the latest Flaming Lips record lately, THE ELECTRIC CINEMA, the debut self titled record from the London quartet is sure to inspire a similar sense of wide eyed wonderment. With former single and opening track CUT DOWN, they manage to inspire the same intoxicating sense of sonic glory; Dan Neale crooning warmly over stirring electronic sweeps and enchantingly wonky guitar shapes.
Drawing favourable comparisons to the equally majestic like of The Sleepy Jackson and Grandaddy, The Electric Cinema are unveiled as new darlings of the psychedelic pop scene here. I COULD KNOW ALL OF YOU may plunder the exact same reference points, but when you're dealing with such warm and fuzzy feelings, who's really going to argue with the results. The delicate pop of BRAND NEW BLUES glides along on pretty piano chords and fuzzy guitar riffs, The Electric Cinema delivering neo-psychedelic pop thrills and bringing the summer three months early.
HEAT EXCHANGE is every bit as warm, welcoming, intoxicating and sublime as you could hope for, a lush collage of slanted guitar shapes, off-kilter bass lines and heaven sent synth swells. Like the perfect cross pollination of The Flaming Lips and The Sleepy Jackson, HEAT EXCHANGE is a glorious slice of brilliant pop warmth; sure a little indebted to its obvious inspirations, but when you're inspirations are so damn fine, again who's to complain.
YOUR MANGA EYE is a more subdued but no less intoxicating pop tune, The Electric Cinema once again managing to charm, beguile and amaze. With a more electronic edge, MONDAY MORNING RADIO is reminiscent of The Earlies, wallowing in the same sense of genre hopping country/psychedelic/electro pop whilst the laid back charm of SO HELLO/GOODBYE imagines Coldplay getting it on with The Polyphonic Spree. Closing number IT'S FIRE WE CRAVE THE MOST end things on a majestic high, The Electric Cinema bringing all the widescreen epic joy you could ever hope for.
If you're after a bit of majestic sweeping pop warmth, The Electric Cinema are here to fill your needs; and with debut album THE ELECTRIC CINEMA, deliver a sublime mixture of The Flaming Lips and The Sleepy Jackson, and really, what's not to love in that?

BIOGRAPHY
Watford 4-piece The Electric Cinema release their sparkling debut album this March. Siblings Dan (vocals) and Rebecca Neale (bass), Martin Gear
(keyboards) and Jamie Oram (drums) have already proved their talent for timeless singalong choruses with XFM playlisted single HEAT EXCHANGE. Since its release in August, the band have headlined shows at Barfly, Bush Hall and around Europe.
The 11 tracks that form the album were partly inspired by a desire to create a soundtrack for some 30 year old family super eight films, which the band often project onstage at gigs. The resultant sound is warm and nostalgic, marrying analogue keyboard sounds, squelchy basslines and breathy harmonies with Dan's mysterious yearning lyrics.
THE ELECTRIC CINEMA was recorded in various homes of band members and band members' relatives and was mastered at Abbey Road. A second single CUT DOWN will be released on March 12.
The band are also collaborating with 10 young filmmakers to create a series of shorts set to their music, a project which will be hosted on their myspace site.
