SUGARLOW RECORDS
Clearly in thrall to the alt rocking neo psychedelic wonders of the likes of the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev and The Polyphonic Spree, Watford four piece The Electric Cinema are a band aiming to bring about the same sense of aural wonder and sundrenched warmth.
With latest single CUT DOWN, they manage to inspire the same intoxicating sense of sonic glory; Dan Neale crooning warmly over stirring electronic sweeps and enchantingly wonky guitar shapes. Drawing favourable comparisons to the equally majestic like of The Sleepy Jackson and Grandaddy, The Electric Cinema are unveiled as new darlings of the psychedelic pop scene here, a fact that's only unequivocally seconded by the equally joyous flipside DIAGRAMS.
If you're after a bit of majestic sweeping pop warmth, The Electric Cinema are here to fill your needs; a sublime mixture of The Flaming Lips and The Sleepy Jackson, what's not to love in that?
BIOGRAPHY
Watford 4-piece The Electric Cinema release their sparkling debut album this March. Siblings Dan (vocals) and Rebecca Neale (bass), Martin Gear (keyboards) and Jamie Oram (drums) have already proved their talent for timeless singalong choruses with XFM playlisted single HEAT EXCHANGE. Since its release in August, the band have headlined shows at Barfly, Bush Hall and around Europe.
The 11 tracks that form the album were partly inspired by a desire to create a soundtrack for some 30 year old family super eight films, which the band often project onstage at gigs. The resultant sound is warm and nostalgic, marrying analogue keyboard sounds, squelchy basslines and breathy harmonies with Dan's mysterious yearning lyrics.
THE ELECTRIC CINEMA was recorded in various homes of band members and band members' relatives and was mastered at Abbey Road. A second single CUT DOWN will be released on March 12.
The band are also collaborating with 10 young filmmakers to create a series of shorts set to their music, a project which will be hosted on their myspace site.
