THE CODE - BACK OF THE ROOM
Back Of The Room / I Think You Got Me Wrong / If
WHITE LABEL
Making a ragged, if predictable indie rock racket, newcomers The Code produce a sound that manages to marry the quirky guitar rock of We Are Scientists to the epic grandeur of U2.
With their latest single BACK OF THE ROOM, the band make a solid if underwhelming statement; BACK OF THE ROOM lurching between Coldplay like sensitive indie posturing and big exploding pop choruses, morphing eventually into a boisterous slice of epic indie rock by the end, the vocals delivering a stadium filling holler. I THINK YOU GOT ME WRONG meanwhile owes a certain debt to We Are Scientists in its guitar rattle and vocal melodies; not an all together bad thing, just a little devoid of originality in places.
The Code make a decent enough stab of things here, not a wholly original or inspired take, but things rattle along with enough skewed edginess and slanted raggedness to please. Not the most startling of singles, BACK OF THE ROOM nevertheless points towards bigger and better things for The Code, a promising start.
BIOGRAPHY
North London four-piece, The Code release their white label EP, BACK OF THE ROOM. The band set out to write meaningful tunes that move people by generating the melodic but ballsey mix of driving rhythms, punchy guitars and lairy vocals, which epitomise The Code sound. Their lyrics discuss city life, living it uo, growing up and throwing up.
The Code are regulars on the London circuit and the band have played many venues including ULU, The Barfly, The Carling Bar Academy, The Garage, The Borderline and The Dublin Castle. While on these jaunts, they have played with acts such as The Subways, The Rakes, Field Music and The Ludes.
With the bands first EP garnering play on XFM and Radio One, they are confident their second EP, BACK OF THE ROOM, will raise their profile, both within the industry and for gig goers alike. The 3 tracks, BACK OF THE ROOM, I THINK YOU GOT ME WRONG and IF, were recorded at Rollover Studios. North London and were mastered at the world famous Abbey Road studios at the end of last year.
