A trio of songs that drip with dark atmosphere, The Black Dog contribute a compilation of their finest moments that acts like a haunting soundtrack to late night comedowns or the companion piece to abstract art, this is music that suits those slower moments in life - at times cold and clinical, at times menacing and paranoid, but on the whole beautiful and sublime.
BIOGRAPHY
The Black Dog don't really need an introduction. Highly regarded as one of the most influential figures in the British electronica scene, they are synonymous with the rise of electronic music in the UK. Their rhythmic inventiveness coupled with their deep and innovative approach to music in general made them pioneers of UK techno, heralding a new breed of music entirely.
Their classic PARALLEL, BYTES and SPANNERS albums literally created new fields of music. Taking Detroit techno, warping it, and smudging the boundaries gave UK techno a music of it's own and as a result the band grew as the scene developed.
Only pressed in small numbers and long out of print and scratched through overuse, many of these classics are now so rare they are changing hands for big money. Soma are bringing these releases back from the archives, completely digitally remastered to show today's technoheads where the music really came from.
The debut EP from the act, VIRTUAL, marked a pivotal moment in electronic music as sounds inherited from dub reggae and ambient were fused with techno and house. The three tracks from the EP - VIRTUAL, THE WEIGHT and AMBIENCE WITH TEETH - illustrated The Black Dog's ethic, to create truly innovative bodies of work that were as ground-breaking as they were enjoyable. It is with this same EP that Soma take the leading 12" from the digitally remastered album.
Displayed on double CD, techno's forefathers are back with some classic Dogisms. They bite deep and they bite hard, you will be infected. Before the end of the album The Black Dog will be in your blood and there's no antidote. The only thing left to do is enjoy it.
