Proof of the power good songs and a mesmerising voice can have, singer/songwriter TD Lind is someone blessed with a grace and majesty that is understated yet beguiling.
With his debut record LET'S GET LOST, TD Lind proves himself an artist with the songs and range to go all the way, a collection of songs that establish him as a major new talent. Opener RADIO PROPOSAL exhibits touches of Damien Rice and Elton John, a rousing piano ballad that centres around an enticing chorus and heartfelt melodicism. The more left field LAST KISS is a song that skulks along with minimalist urges, strange electronic murmurs gradually giving way to impassioned choruses, whilst on the gentle acoustic MILESTONE, TD Lind lets his natural charisma and mesmerising voice do the bulk of the work.
Touches of Damien Rice are evident in his vocal delivery, but there's also a hint of Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams and Wilco on COME IN FROM THE COLD, Lind also wearing his Dylan influences on his sleeve; his staccato delivery underpinning the rough around the edges guitar riffs. The tender LET'S GET LOST is a more surrealist take on events, swirling carnival vibes haunting the background; the piano ballad of I DON'T MISS YOU meanwhile sees Lind coming over all Broadway musical theatre in his delivery. Elsewhere, HER is a jaunty slice of indie power pop, TD Lind settling into a sound that finds the middle ground between The Shins and Crowded House, a kind of easy listening indie guitar groove. Chock full of infectious singalong moments and a sense of the sublime, HER is the kind of tune destined to set TD Lind further on the road to stardom. Closer DISCO BOAT is a twisted blues meets hissing lo-fi affair that ends things with a sense of the strange and beguiling; a fitting climax really.
Proof of the power good songs and a mesmerising voice can have; TD Lind manages to hold your attention rapt and in awe over the entirety of LET'S GET LOST. A singer-songwriter with grace and majesty - understated, intense and beguiling, this is an album to cherish.
BIOGRAPHY
Most of us were made to stand up and pay attention to TD Lind last year when he released his debut single COME IN FROM THE COLD, very quickly fans in the press and radio were singing his praises. A brilliant live session on BBC 6 music with Tom Robinson, where he made Record-of-the-Week, sparked off a number of plays with key radio tastemakers such as Phil Jupitus, Bob Harris and Mark Radcliffe (Radio 2). Also one of his songs was even used in one of the surprise hit movies of last year 'Driving Lessons' starring Julie Walters.
He dazzled at south x south west and his live shows really began to hot up with high profile supports with James Blunt and Mew,, and key shows at The Wireless Festival and The Americana Festival, which saw his powerful performance mesmerise the crowd and it also secured his reputation as a hot new talent to watch out for.
Now as 2007 starts warming up he is back with his new single RADIO PROPOSAL, set for release on March 5th acting as a prelude to his long awaited Album LET'S GET LOST, which is released on the 19th March.
RADIO PROPOSAL is written with integrity and authenticity. The sound of alt-country making brave and admirable strides towards mainstream acceptance. With a sound that echoes Josh Rouse at his most euphoric and the infectious literate pop of The Pernice Brothers, RADIO PROPOSAL is just what its title implies; a song that, understandably, begs to be played. And, if the producers behind the airwaves have any sense at all, it will be.
