Accomplished and slick, but lacking anything remotely approaching originality or freshness, Stone Halo are a band it's hard to get excited about. All blues tinged funk rock licks and smooth rock vocals, this is a UK based four piece in the vein of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers or Reef; nothing new or inspired, but very well done all the same.
STONE HALO is a collection of very slick and polished rock tunes, Stone Halo aren't likely to become your new favourite band; the songs here, too steeped in hoary rock clichés and predictability to make any real impression.
KARMA BABY is a funk rock workout from the Chilli Peppers songbook, soulful guitar licks and funky drumming galore; the similarly themed RAT RACE repeating the same tricks, all Anthony Kiedis by way of Steve Tyler vocal impersonations and guitar work that sounds lifted from a Chilli Peppers session recording.
The mellow grooves of WONDERLAND show that Stone Halo also know their Stevie Wonder, a lazy Innervisions knock off that hardly highlights the bands originality.
Slick funk rock that does little to excite, Stone Halo may not be the most original band on the planet - but at the very least, they do what they do extremely well.
BIOGRAPHY
In the winter of 2004, five seemingly ordinary musicians gravitated together to form a rock 'n soul über band called Stone Halo.
From a myriad of backgrounds, Stone Halo soon developed a unique, hypnotic, soul-grinding sound.
On their second gig they supported the explosive Alabama3 (of "The Sopranos" fame) in Norwich, England.
With a growing industry following and an ever increasing fan base, Stone Halo are currently recording their debut album and shooting their second video, to be released in the summer of 2006.
Highly acclaimed Virgn Radio DJ Steve Harris describes the band as the next generation Red Hot Chilli Peppers and industry insiders are hailing Stone Halo as one of the most exciting new bands in Britain today.
