SELF RELEASED
TRACKLISTING All In Time Connection Show Me The Way Sunset Wine Alive (Just A Lie) Miracle Disease Push The Light Thanatos Vision Still managing to impress despite some obvious technical limitations here, Still Existing certainly have the songs and ambition in spades on new album 2:1.
Sounding like a badly recorded demo at times, 2:1 isn't the most polished or accomplished of affairs; something that pushes the impressive nature of the songs even more. ALL IN TIME centres of a hypnotic riff and serpentine drum patterns, the anthemic choruses whilst obvious, brilliantly effective. CONNECTION is more of the same, Still Existing proving themselves a band with the potential if not quite yet the means. Vocalist Steve Hunter has a voice that can struggle to keep things in check, his anthemic croon a touch too frequently dropping to an almost out of tune mess on the songs here, something hopefully a little more time and experience can fix.
SHOW ME THE WAY is a more generic slice of hard rock, Still Existing delivering a sound somewhere between Finch and the Goo Goo Dolls, whilst on the more subdued SUNSET WINE, Hunters vocals again fail to really hit home, rendering the whole thing a little unappealing.
Still Existing are a band for whom at the moment, their potential far outstrips their musical output; 2:1 is a collection of songs that feel more like a blueprint for the future, than a particularly polished final product. Still, with obvious ambition and an impressive clutch of tunes here, Still Existing sound like a band for whom only some more time, honing and experience will see the difference between promising and great.
BIOGRAPHY
About *Still Existing*
The band began many moons ago, when guitarist Patrick Sanders and drummer Jack Feeney began hitting out dodgy notes and rhythms in the darkest corners of Wiltshire sometime around 2003. By 2005 the band had acquired Lead Singer and Bass Player Steve Hunter, and Guitarist Kevin Sanders. This line up stayed stable through two E.Ps and a shed load of gigs, until the middle of 2006, when it was decided long time band buddy Joel Person (AKA Mole) was needed to fill out the sound with soothing synth, as well as helping out with the now juggling bass.
The band has not only grown physically over the past years, but the sound has also matured, into a tasty brew of hair, rock and a general sense of the late 80's
