PIAS/Wall Of Sound
Sounding much like you'd imagine the results of Basement Jaxx and Gang Of Four being locked in a dark basement and forced to write a bunch of spiky pop songs, New York based duo Shy Child are the latest act to blend sharp synth riffs with frenetic drum patterns, p-funk guitar stabs and huge pop choruses.
Latest single SUMMER, sounds like Interpol on prozac, the dark lyrical delivery swathed in jaunty synth stabs and day glo drum patterns. Shy Child making a late bid to capitalise on the indian summer with a late breaking slice of anthemic pop. Backed with a slew of remixes here, the MURDER CAPITAL remix is the pick of the bunch, the song almost completely reworked into a collision of garage, nu-rave and acid house.
An urgent sounding and essential addition to this years wave of exciting new bands, Shy Child continue to impress here with another storming single.
BIOGRAPHY
The new single from New York duo Shy Child perfectly captures what this band are about - a truly unique sound that merges Timbaland, Devo and the White Stripes: a blend of electro, hip-hop, prog and punk that on paper shouldn't work but truly does in practice. Shy Child are an original proposition not only in sound but in the way they create their music. Shy Child are a live act in every sense - every sound heard is made by the combination of Nate's drumming and Pete's vocals and prodigious playing of an often dismissed instrument - the keyboard guitar. Having chosen this unusual line-up, they've made a name for themselves with a live show that blows all rivals out of the water. Such a reputation has seen Shy Child already sharing bills with the likes of The Chemical Brothers, CSS, Hot Chip, Klaxons, Spank Rock and Soulwax.
