Sounding much like you'd imagine the results of Basement Jaxx and Gang Of Four being locked in a dark basement and forced to write a bunch of spiky pop songs, New York based duo Shy Child are the latest act to blend sharp synth riffs with frenetic drum patterns, p-funk guitar stabs and huge pop choruses on their debut album, DROP THE PHONE.
Sounding like a more urgent and hungry version of The Bravery, opening track DROP THE PHONE throbs away like the dancefloor-owning monster-tune its destined to become; the sound of Soft Cell abusing Duran Duran at a sleazy electro strip club. As the thrusting bass line kicks in and frenetic synth riffs dance erratically around pulsating drum beats, DROP THE PHONE instantly announces itself as an anthemic song to believe in.  The awkwardly jerky PRESSURE TO COME finds the duo delivering violent thrusting synth stabs and Detroit techno inspired lunacy, almost the sound of Carl Cox channelling The Killers on some sweaty indie dancefloor, the similarly twisted electro pop of KICK DRUM, a song that gives The Klaxons a lesson or two in the whole new rave thing.
GENERATION Y ( WE GOT IT) is a gloriously anthemic and in your face affair that deftly blends techno and pop, abrasive vocal barks dancing awkwardly between surging synthesiser abuse and upfront beats; think LCD Soundsystem battling The Rapture over the title of New York's premier punk funk architects of sound.
NOISE WON'T STOP takes its cues from eighties synth pop, traces of The Human League, Duran Duran and Tubeway Army running through its wired veins.  Yelping vocals are backed by snappy synth stabs and frenetic drum patterns.  SUMMER is basically The Kaiser Chiefs getting roughed up and abused by Joy Division whilst the Roxy Music alike WHAT'S IT FEEL LIKE is all bashed piano chords, treated vocal yelps and angelic backing choirs before the trance heavy conclusion CAUSE AND EFFECT ends things on a jerkily erratic high.
An impressive sounding album from Shy Child, NOISE WON'T STOP is a thrilling record that indicates this New York duo are bound for LCD Soundsystem sized glory.  An urgent sounding and essential addition to this years wave of exciting new bands, Shy Child have arrived and judging by DROP THE PHONE, are ready to kick-start the summer into some serious action.

BIOGRAPHY
The new single from New York duo Shy Child perfectly captures what this band are about - a truly unique sound that merges Timbaland, Devo and the White Stripes: a blend of electro, hip-hop, prog and punk that on paper shouldn't work but truly does in practice. Shy Child are an original proposition not only in sound but in the way they create their music. Shy Child are a live act in every sense - every sound heard is made by the combination of Nate's drumming and Pete's vocals and prodigious playing of an often dismissed instrument - the keyboard guitar. Having chosen this unusual line-up, they've made a name for themselves with a live show that blows all rivals out of the water. Such a reputation has seen Shy Child already sharing bills with the likes of The Chemical Brothers, CSS, Hot Chip, Klaxons, Spank Rock and Soulwax.
