RE ACTION RECORDINGS
TRACKLISTING 13 Phrantic Flaw Shine Alone Fading Blinded Try No Parts Lifespan M.O.T. Wide Awake A five piece hailing from Scotland, Serotone are another of those bands emitting righteous punk rock anger; all blistering guitar riffs, raging vocals, soaring choruses and pile driving drum beats. You can't shake the feeling that you've heard it all before though, when listening to the bands debut album EQUILIBRIA; a collection of typical screamo/post-hardcore rock songs, moments here when Serotone appear virtually indistinguishable from the likes of Finch, The Used, Funeral For A Friend, Thursday etc, etc.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing of course, there's a certain punk rock dynamic and boundless energy at play here that is energising and thrilling; songs like PHRANTIC, 13, SHINE ALONE and FADING in particular emerging as early highpoints and forcing involuntary air guitar outbursts and leaps around the room.
EQUILIBRIA is a record whose charms perhaps depend on your tolerance of music that wallows in the over familiar and cosy, Serotone seem content with rehashing a sound that's already been done to death; there's practically nothing here that distinguishes the band apart from countless other acts punching out extremely similar sounding material.
If you can ignore the nagging feeling of over familiarity and the by-the-numbers nature of Serotone, then EQUILIBRIA is a record that satisfies as a slick modern rock experience; a collection of songs that perform their function with laser guided precision. Reassuringly anthemic and loud enough to grab your attention, EQUILBRIA is a record that delivers all the right screamo thrills and spills at all the right moments, and for that is a satisfying and worthy experience, if just a little predictable and cliched in places.
BIOGRAPHY
"Serotone is a highly original, dynamic band with pounding sensibilities and heart to spare.." IMG Music Promotions Limited.
It's been three years in the making, but the wait is almost over - Scotland's hottest new band are about to release their debut album 'Moment of Transparency'.
Dale (lead singer), Lee (bass), Goody (drums), Lem (guitar) and Eck (guitar) have combined their talents to deliver a unique, heavy, energizing rock statement with a melodic ambiance. A distinctive sound, pumping with passion and set to take the rock scene by storm.
The boys, who are all in their early 20's joined forces in 2003 with Dale, Lee and Goody asking Eck and Lem to come and audition for the band. Though only one guitar option was initially up for grabs, both worked so well off each other they were both hired, so to speak. Since then they have been producing their own material, regularly thrilling audiences across the UK. They have performed at numerous venues including Fury Murray's, Cathouse, Sound House, 13th Note and The Arches. They have also played in London.
Serotone proved once more they have what it takes to succeed in a 'Battle of the Bands' at Strathclyde University, clinching fourth place in the competition, out of over 300 entrants, firmly making their mark on the country's music scene.
They have taken inspiration from acts such as a Perfect Circle, Radiohead, The Mars Volta, and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but as drummer Goody explains, "While there are many exciting bands out there who we admire and respect, I do think we are offering a fresh sound - hard rock with a metal twist".
