ROTATING LESLIE
Lurking on the periphery of the indie rock scene for some time now, Rotating Leslie are one of those bands slowly but surely building up a strong reputation and just ready to explode.
Latest single RADIO is another strong sounding indication that Rotating Leslie are a band just waiting in the wings to explode, jagged guitar chords dancing excitedly around short sharp drum stabs and catchy melodies. Centred on a massive chorus and amidst messy guitar scrapes, RADIO demands your attention from the get go, a driving slice of indie rock that finds the middle ground between the wired pop of Franz Ferdinand and the earnest emotional angst of the Editors. Flipside STOP is another infectiously delightful affair, this time round Rotating Leslie bashing out chirpy indie pop that sounds just like a more polished and pop infused version of Babyshambles.
Another strong statement of intent from Rotating Leslie, RADIO / STOP further raises the question as to why this band aren’t much bigger news than they currently are.
BIOGRAPHY
After being expelled from various schools, arrested and nearly driven insane by LSD, Rotating Leslie were born. Three friends from school, Greg, Adrian and Dan, went on a journey of discovery in their formative years which saw them DJ at illegal raves, get carted off in Police vans and almost lose their minds in East London squats. The only way out was to turn their backs on the scene they had immersed themselves in, move to a farmhouse in the countryside and form a band.
Here, with brother and bass player Stuart, they released a limited fanbase album 'Infrequent Mild Peril' - a collection of demos which sold out of it's 1000 copies in a matter of weeks. Copies are now exchanging hands for £20 on ebay! One year and three drummers later, Steve Temple joined up and they recorded their debut single 'Fire!Fire!'. Put out as a self-funded, limited-edition, signed 7" at the end of the summer, they quickly sold out the 500 pressings in Rough Trade, Pure Groove and HMV in the first week, and received airplay on Londons XFM, Virgin and BBC 6. Also with the help of thousands of downloads they were named BBC Londons' band of the week by Gary Crowley (The first DJ to play on Londons 104.9 XFM!).
The video for their debut single, which was filmed for nothing in their front garden, is currently being playlisted by MTV2!!
They have gained a large and loyal following from 'Woodendstock', the annual free festival at their farm, and their incendiary London warehouse parties and extensive gigging over the last 12 months. This has seen them support The View, The Paddingtons, Dogs, The Rifles, Queens of Noize, The Boxer Rebellion, 65 Days of Static, the Subways and Goldie Lookin Chain to name but a few.
This summer they headlined the Isle of Wight Festival New Bands Stage and played the Secret Garden Party. Filled with the same passionate energy as their music, the live shows are just as infectious, with festival crowds singing along with songs they've never even heard!
NME described their sound as 'gritty, harmonic, art pop'; call it what you will, they have steered away from the obvious indie clich's and instead, relied on their diverse influences from 80's metal to electro house and created something fresh and exciting. Constant song-writing from the band is bringing a stream of new material and with their second single due for release in the new year, the Leslies are starting to turn a few heads.
2007 is already looking good for the boys. The Subways supported them at a secret hometown gig, Fire!Fire! is on the cover of Playmusic Magazine in January and they played with The View at the launch of E4's new show Skins. Things are definitely looking good!
Fast rising indie guitar exponents Rotating Leslie are proud to announce the release of their second single on 14th August 2006 entitled FIRE! FIRE!. Limited to 500 coloured 7inch vinyl with signed poster, b/with an exclusive track entitled PISS IN THE DISCO - so named to highlight their love/hate relationship with dance music and its scene - this record has virtually sold out before being pressed.

Here, with brother and bass player Stuart and northern addition Nick, they recorded their debut single NO REQUESTS. Put out as a limited 300 7" and CD at the end of the summer 2005, they sold out in Rough Trade in the first two weeks and received airplay on London's XFM. With over 1500 copies of the CD sold and 10,000 downloads they moved on to build up their live shows. They've gained a large and loyal following through their annual free festival at the farm and their extensive gigging. Over the last 12 months they have played with The Subways, The Paddingtons, Dogs, New Rhodes, Kill City, The Rifles, Thee Unstrung, Queens Of Noize, The Boxer Rebellion, 65 Days of Static, The Gliteratti, Goldie Lookin Chain and many more. Not to mention getting booked for Glastonbury, Shepherds Bush Empire and playing sell-out shows at the Barfly and Garage.
NME describe the band as making 'gritty, harmonic, art pop'. Call it what you will, they have steered away from the obvious indie cliche's and instead, relied on their diverse influences to create something fresh and exciting.
Rotating Leslie have toured extensively so far this year and continue to play the festival circuit and high profile shows in support of this single, culminating in them jetting off to play the Fool's Gold festival in South Africa. With Radio 1's Zane Lowe's listeners salivating over the band and XFM's new music guru John Kennedy championing them, things are looking pretty good for these feisty Hertfordshire lads.
