ANGELIC MUSIC
Putting a quirky and original spin on the whole female singer/songwriter scene, Rosie Oddie is someone who feels like a breath of fresh air amongst the majority of her more po faced contemporaries.
At a push, you could place Rosie Oddie somewhere between Lily Allen, Lady Sovereign and The Streets; her debut single GENNI'S SONG, an upbeat pop tune that touches on rap, folk, hip-hop and pop. This is a refreshingly inspired and fresh sounding affair, GENNI'S SONG one of those singles that wins you over by sheer force of personality and hook laden charm.
Prepare to get used to the name Rosie Oddie over the coming months, a singer/songwriter with the originality, freshness and personality to emerge as a major new pop star.
BIOGRAPHY
“Skank-enthused acoustic pop and kooky rock and roll, with some fabulous tunes and a nifty young backing band." ents24.com
Rosie Oddie won first prize in the international all-female singer-songwriting competition ‘In Her Own Words’ at the end of 2006 sparking off the start of a fabulous year in 2007. The competition was launched by Angelic Music the first label in the UK to specialise in female singer/songwriters, set up to find real originality and talent rather than the architypal pop princess.
The panel of industry judges, who voted unanimously for Rosie, had no idea the winner had a famous father until after they had made their decision and her winning song ‘Genni’s Song’ will be first single released from a compilation CD also named ‘In Her Own Words’ by Angelic Music, a new record label promoting women musicians. Janis Haves, founder of Angelic Music, said: "There wasn't another song entered like hers. It was totally unique."
The 21-year-old, who entered after her father spotted the contest in Maverick Magazine, said: "I'm really excited about everything that’s happening."
The singer's music has been compared to Ian Dury, with her winning track has been described as a mixture of punk, rap and funk.
Rosie and her band ‘The Odd Squad’ have since been invited to join the late Ian Dury’s band ‘The Blockheads’ as support on several dates of their tour with Phil Jupitus in the Autumn.
Oddie has been writing music since she was 13, but has rejected previous offers of music deals.
"I feel I have only just got to the right age to do this for real," she said.
Rosie made her first appearance at the O2 Wireless festival in Hyde Park, London on June 16th 2007.
