ERASED TAPES RECORDS
TRACKLISTING Juncture Seventeen Kitsch Vari The Decadent Acid The brainchild of 21 year old Leicester electronica whizzkid Ryan Lee West, Rival Consoles is a dark electro dance project that deftly blends drum n bass, electronica and dub synth with something far more cinematic and vast.
With THE DECADENT EP, Rival Consoles concoct walls of dark electronica that drips with menace and chilling beauty, opener JUNCTURE an atmospheric mishmash of the orchestral and electronic; echoes of U.N.K.L.E., Amon Tobin or Clint Mansell's work on film soundtracks like Pi or Requiem For A Dream. SEVENTEEN is equally dark and atmospheric, if a little less cinematic in scope; processed beats battling it out with deeb dub synth squalls. Elsewhere here, KITSCH is another filmic orchestral slice of bombast, VARI a creepy collage of off kilter samples and eerie beats and THE DECADENT a futuristic sci-fi soundtrack to some unmade lo budget classic.
A handful of songs that drip with dark atmosphere, THE DECADENT EP acts like a haunting soundtrack to late night comedowns or the companion piece to abstract art, Rival Consoles at times cold and clinical, at times menacing and paranoid, but on the whole beautiful and sublime.
BIOGRAPHY
Rival Consoles is 21-year old electro acid-smith Ryan Lee West from Leicester. Influenced by impressionists like Claude Debussy and modern electronic artists such as Autechre and Squarepusher, he created his unique signature. A playful and brutal mix of IDM acid beats and warm, emotive synth string arrangements.
In February he released and toured the more quirky VEMEER EP under his second musical Aparatechw ,which sold like hot cakes and earned him a lot of fans like Brian at Norman Records.
