As
Nine Black Alps recent success story has proved, the world
seems ready for another burst of grunge rock. Messy pop songs
coated in abrasive guitars and skewed melodies are the order
of the day and red.star.line are a band delivering the goods
with aplomb. PURE is a throbbing slice of
rock that surfs a wave of noisy guitar riffs and frenetic
drum beats - Tim Crosby's vocals riding the chaos, his voice
finding that middle ground between pissed off alienation and
righteous anger, spitting out his words with delicious spite.
REWARDS FOR INFORMERS loses none of that
attitude, less frenetic maybe but with a darker spirit and
sharper bite, full of venom.
red.star.line find that crucial balance between melodicism
and visciousness, spiking their songs with enough hooks to
keep you interested and more importantly constantly coming
back for more. Another infectious single from a storming debut
album, PURE/REWARD FOR INFORMERS is a slice
of glorious rock music from a band who are surely only seconds
away from stardom.
Described by Power Play magazine as a "brilliant slab
of guitar rock" PURE is the second single released off
East London based red.star.line's
critically acclaimed self-titled debut album. Coupled as a
debut A-side with celebrity-culture slamming REWARDS FOR INFORMERS,
the release should further increase the bands exposure and
add to their ever-increasing fan-base.
PURE is a driving guitar punk rock track influenced by Nirvana
circa Dive, looking to expose the missing link between Bleach
and Nevermind. The track has the almost desperate, screeching
vocal line "Can I have you/won't you take me home?"
to beg and forget where we are and get to a place we want
to be.
William S Burrough's chemical-fuelled personal diversion influenced
REWARDS FOR INFORMERS describes the apathetic view of celebrity
soul-selling; an environment where everyone wishes to attain
celebrity status through any means possible and the desperate
need for front page tell-tale stories.
The East London music scene has produced yet another excellent
musical offering in the shape of red.star.line.
The band have many influences between the four of them, as
they have such diverse musical tastes, ranging from Led Zeppelin
to Black Crowes to Rage Against The Machine. CENTREVILLE differs
from many of red.star.line's other tracks, as it's perhaps
the song most heavily influenced by The Stone Roses. The band
took inspiration from the world around us when it came to
writing this album. Each song is a reflection of something
going on, COMMERCIAL SUICIDE, mixes rock star death conspiracies
with the hype surrounding the online Brandon Vedas celebrity
circus. BLACK MEAT PARLOUR talks about being 'pissed off with
George Bush'. The most personal offering on the album is DEAD
MAN DRIVING, a song about longing, and emotion everyone can
relate to.
red.star.line are; Tim Crosby (vocals), Colin Lomas (bass),
Rich Beniston (guitar) and James Rixon (drums/percussion).
The band was formed when life long friends Tim and Colin moved
down to London and decided they wanted to live a rock 'n'
roll lifestyle. They got James in on drums, and Richard on
guitar. As they started performing more and more their sound
turned from a lighter indie feel to a heavier rockier sound.
The band's debut single CENTREVILLE managed to grab the attention
of many rock fans, who were missing the rockier edge of today's
music scene. They received many fantastic reviews and packed
out gigs at various venues around London, such as the Pleasure
unit and The Garage.
