Remind You (G.D.R. Remix) / Remind You (ReCoup PM Remix) INITIATE RECORDS
The latest band attempting to cross pollinate the worlds of rock and dance, ReCoup are a three piece outfit juggling downbeat indie rock and squelchy techno.
Latest release REMIND YOU, gathers together a duo of remixes of the title track; neither of which unfortunately manage to exactly thrill, excite or engage. Seemingly stuck in some mid nineties dance groove, ReCoup deliver a sound here that resides somewhere between Moby, Underworld and The Beloved; gloomy indie vocals rubbing up against uninspiring synth squalls and dull beats. Whilst REMIND YOU is an undoubtedly slick and well thought out affair, its the lack of imagination or fresh ideas here that will ultimately leave you feeling cold and indifferent. LINE UP
Pieter Theron
Mat Wood Alida Stadler BIOGRAPHY
Live electronic group Recoup; known for their intense live shows and quality production announce the launch of their debut album WORTHWHILE.
ReCoup started life during 2003 when Pieter Theron joined Adam Hyslop (keyboards/drums) and Paul Errington (guitars) on a project of writing and producing fresh original music. Initially they were creating mainly experimental studio work, fusing electronic music with live guitars, drums and vocals, and played live sets under the name Coup. Paul and Adam departed from the project in 2004, at which point Mat Wood (blipscreen) on guitars and Alida Stadler (Delta Blue) on drums, joined forces with Pieter to create the current line up of ReCoup. With new blood and enthusiasm, ReCoup set out on a new route of how their music should be performed. The group rented a warehouse in East London and spent months of intensive work remodelling the sounds and setup and also continued writing new material. By incorporating electronic drum triggers and looping some of the sounds ReCoup are able to perform their complex music live. This provides for an energetic and vibrant live performance with more interaction with the audience. Essentially ReCoup is, looks, feels and sounds like a live band, but still maintains a strong electronic feel. Top producer Hugh Griffith and Marina Fussela from Playtime Productions, were brought in to co-produce and mix the tracks for the album, and Intimate Studios in Wapping, East London was used to do the final mix. Hugh has previously worked with well-known musicians and bands including Placebo and Goldie. From May 2006 ReCoup will be performing at various clubs to promote their newly released mini album. The group is also planning to perform at some European festivals in the summer and a tour to South Africa later in 2006. DISCOGRAPHY
