Yet more darkly brilliant electronica to emerge from Glasgow's Soma Recordings label, Octogen is the work of producer Marco Bernardi, someone clearly inspired by Detroit techno judging by new single SOULSEARCHER.
An atmospheric and deeply textured piece of work, SOULSEARCHER is a collage of electro blips and bleeps, moody beats and surging synth swells. Sounding like Orbital by way of Squarepusher, this is a superb and inspired slice of haunting trance, dark, atmospheric, rich and deep. The similarly inspired MORPHESISED finds Bernardi delving into the same musical territory, unleashing another slice of pitch black electronica rich in atmosphere and texture.
Elsewhere Octogen deliver the robotic soul of CSIDE (DROIDO MIX) kind of Kraftwerk rewired by the Aphex Twin and the searching techno-soul of ANOMALIES.
A superb sounding release, SOULSEARCHER finds Octogen delivering dark electronica and trance with style, atmosphere and soul; a mouthwatering taster for the forthcoming album.
BIOGRAPHY
Octogen is a pseudonym for Glasgow producer Marco Bernardi, newly signed to Soma Recordings, his debut album 2FIVEONINE is completed and will be released in January 2007. SOULSEARCHER is his forthcoming single and includes a Marco Passarani remix and two exclusive tracks.
2FIVEONINE is a stunning collection of shimmering techno-soul that exemplifies the depth and emotion of Marco's productions. With this album he effortlessly fuses intricate, warm electronica with razor sharp electro jams and haunting alien techno workouts, which results in an Immaculate collection of Detroit inspired future funk that will engage the listener from start to finish. The title refers to the date of his baby son's birthday.
Marco Bernardi has made a name for himself through his association with Rotterdams pioneering Clone label. His releases on affiliated labels Frustrated Funk, Frantic Flowers and DUB have cemented his credentials as part of the new breed of electro-tech manipulators. Prior to his association with Clone he released on Tom Churchill's Emoticon Imprint and with Claude Young on former Glasgow label Under The Counter.
SOULSEARCHER is an anthemic, Underground Resistance inspired masterpiece which includes an infectious chord progression that instantly grabs you. This is hi-tech funk at its very best, the equally powerful MORPHEUSISED is a bleeping, android assault of writhing electro beats. Marco Passarani's remix of SOULSEARCHER builds a smooth groove and reduces the intensity of the original for a future dancefloor classic. The 12" is rounded off with the jacking ANOMALIES, this is a driving slice of devastating electro in the Drexclya vein. The promo also contains three bonus tracks, the wonky stutter of COMPLICATION is followed by the exquisite Droido mix of previous single CSIDE and the Accapella.
