DEEPSEE MUSIC
DEEPSEE003
The sound of Duran Duran roughed up by Oasis and thrown into a blender of glam rock excess, Nemo are a band as heavy on the synthesisers and eyeliner as they are on the guitars and choruses.
Delivering new single CAR CRASH EYES with a furious eye on the garishness of 80s pop, frontman James delivers an aura of up -front anthemic stadium pop, the missing link between Bryan Ferry and Brendan Flowers; driving guitar riffs battling with cold synth stabs and pulsing drum beats. The art rocking ERASE - ESCAPE maintains Nemo's Devo meets Roxy Music meets Duran Duran sensibilities whilst the more off kilter TIMEBOMB is a song that parades the bands more leftfield side, the catchy melodies this time connected to awkward synths and jerky drum patterns.
With songs as strong sounding and anthemic as CAR CRASH EYES, Nemo are a band that demand your attention; further suggesting them as an outfit that could well be the very next huge pop explosion this year.
BIOGRAPHY
"Neon melodies, punk bullets shot from an electro machine gun. Nemo, the self confessed kings of melody, will melt your heart, subvert your soul and steal your daughters.." -- Julian Barratt - The Mighty Boosh
"North London's Nemo are here to put the preposterous back into pop." -- NME
"Could Nemo make it in the current musical mist enveloping the apathetic scene? Why not? They've got something.." -- The Fly
Nemo are North London's most respected and influential electro-rock quartet. Since their first live performances in the summer of 2004, their fusion of electronics, punk dynamics and pop melodies have been turning heads across London, Paris and Berlin. As experimental as The Faint but as accessible as The Killers, this quintessentially English four piece are already inspiring adoration on both sides of the pond. Their pioneering electro new wave club, 'The System' has played host to such illustrious guests as Richard Archer, Graham Coxon, The White Rose Movement and Robots In Disguise. The club has even found its way onto the continent via original NY new-wave promoter 'Steve Maas' in Berlins Mudd Club.
As producers in their own right, they've recently completed the recording of their debut album 'Post Human Love' at their own 'Deepsee' studios in Dalston, working in the process with Jim Abiss (Arctic Monkeys,Kasabian,Placebo), Charlie Francis (REM) Joe Wilson (Sneaker Pimps,Client,Trash Money) and Emre Ramazanoglu (producer of Mercury Prize nominated Lou Rhodes). Teaming up with guru and a+r legend Andy Ross (Ex-Food Records), the band have secured an impressive array of industry fans. Singer James has appeared in several episodes of the Mighty Boosh series 1 and 2, making cameos both on screen and in the live show, electro-singer songwriter Imogen Heap is a friend and fan, as is Nighty Night's writer and star, Julia Davis.
Arguably the Big Smoke’s best kept secret, “Lifespan” shows exactly why they’ve built such an impressive musical CV. A hungry and urgent rhythm section spliced with stuttering electronics and an infectious melody characterise the single's 2 and a half minutes of chaotic energy. The B-sides are less B-sides than alternative singles – “5 Min. Heroes” is the best song The Human League never wrote and “Truth Or Die” takes on an angular direction not dissimilar to Devo and Les Savy Fav, complete with Sonic Youth style dissonance and squalling guitar histronics.
Bastardised pop music at its best, Nemo’s lifespan in the wider public eye is surely just about to begin..
