SMALL DOG MUSIC TRACKLISTING Fast Lane Irresistible I Never Knew Awake No Ordinary Girl Only You Can Talk To Me Fly Me Again Broken Promises I'm No Good Shoulda Thought Of That Spin The Bottle Fast Lane (Remix)
Unmistakably slick, mainstream pop stuff, FAST LANE, the debut album from Copenhagen born Marie Miller is at the least a classier affair than most in this genre. Penned by All Saints Shaznay Lewis and Robbie Williams songwriter Guy Chambers, opener FAST LANE is an undoubtedly classy slice of pop; and backed with the impressive vocals of Marie Miller, an infectious sounding debut. A country inspired tune that sounds like a collision between Leann Rimes, Shania Twain, Sheryl Crow and bizarrely Led Zeppelin, FAST LANE fortunately sounds much better than those reference points may suggest. Centred around an infectiously catchy chorus line, this is the kind of radio-friendly pop that gets stuck in your head seconds after the first listen. Still managing to rise above the majority of her pop contemporaries by virtue of actual talent and personality, Marie Miller continues to quietly impress with NO ORDINARY GIRL; a classy slice of upbeat pop, traces of country, modern RnB and soul abound here; a collision between Leann Rimes, Christina Aguilera and Joss Stone. Elsewhere the likes of IRRESISTIBLE, I NEVER KNEW and AWAKE continue on in this bubbly soulful RnB pop direction, not exactly life changing stuff but as an example of the genre; an impressive take on things. The odd less than stellar moment rears its head now and again though, TALK TO ME and SHOULDA THOUGHT OF THAT, songs that find Marie Miller delving into dull pop balladeering, all slick processed beats, watered down vocals and predictably depressing melodrama. Whilst songs like SPIN THE BOTTLE and I'M NO GOOD are bland and forgettable stabs at modern pop that feel like filler rather than anything essential here. Overall, an impressive sounding debut album from Marie Miller, as slick mainstream pop goes, FAST LANE is a classy cut above that showcases a fresh new pop singer with definite star appeal.

In 2005 she sang on the Stonebridge mixes of Can't Slow Down and Playground, which both reached the heady heights of no 2 in the MW club charts last year, a platform from which she has been able to develop her album. Her determination to form a band around the songs on the album has enabled her to form a formidable live outfit, a band that will hit the road this year.
