KIRAN HUNGIN - KIRAN HUNGIN
Tomorrow / It's Not Enough / I'm Still Here
SELF RELEASED
Considering, as a singer/songwriter you pretty much sink or swim by virtue of your voice and songwriting skills; Kiran Hungin, from London aces both considerations with relative ease. Her voice, falling somewhere between Beth Orton and Eliza Carthy is steeped clearly in the folk tradition, the songs here on her EP KIRAN HUNGIN steeped in acoustic melancholy.
The acoustic folk of TOMORROW is the kind of mature sounding soulful pop that gets the schedulers at Radio 2 all hot and bothered, Kiran Hungin crooning beautifully over the lush acoustic guitar strums and classy production techniques, her voice resonating with a husky warmth that draws you in from the start and keeps you enthralled to the end. IT'S NOT ENOUGH and I'M STILL HERE find her working within similar parameters, pretty acoustic tunes that shows off that soulful voice to brilliant effect.
With a voice that shines out with emotive warmth and a trio of songs that instantly engage you, this is an impressive debut from Kiran Hungin, a record that presents an alluring and tender introduction to a singer/songwriter well worth investigating.
BIOGRAPHY
Kiran Hungin (pronounced Hun-Jin) hails originally from a small village in the North East of England. However, with one parent from Surrey and the other from Nairobi, life was never a typically Northern affair and this eclecticism is beautifully reflected in Miss Hungin's music.
Kiran gravitated towards London via a pit stop at Edinburgh University, but it is the journey rather than the destination that has always inspired her music. With influences from Joni Mitchell and Jeff Buckley to Ben Harper and Prince, this girl has her head tightly screwed on and, more importantly, facing in the right direction!
In 2006 Kiran was hand picked by Clint Boon for airplay during his unsigned show on XFM, getting huge praise the Mancunian legend. There was also a live session on BBC Radio Norfolk which garnered this comment from the associated website Suffolk'n'Cool.com "If you get the chance to see her live, take it. The sound that comes out of her as she sings is quite amazing. Intelligent and articulate songs."
Kiran is now firmly settled in West London and she regularly gigs in the acoustic venues of the capital as well playing the odd show further afield - keep your eyes on www.myspace.com/kiranhungin for details of forthcoming shows. Miss Hungin can be seen as part of a duo, or with a fuller band encompassing the Spanish sounds of the Cajon and the twinkly feel of the glockenspiel to add her own flavour to proceedings. Combining age old topics of love and life with quirky down to earth banter between songs has made fans and friends out of many who manage to catch her live performances.
Kiran's journey so far has been something of a mystery tour but one thing is for certain and that's the sheer talent this girl has for mesmerising an audience with her vocal abilities and song writing prowess.
