King With No Throne / Together / Train
WHITE LABEL

Based in London but originated in Australia and Switzerland, King With No Throne are a downbeat psychedelic outfit who bring together the sounds of Pink Floyd and Joy Division here on self titled three track single KING WITH NO THRONE.
A collage of windswept post rock guitar histrionics and dark sounding vocal intonations, KING WITH NO THRONE is an expansive musical journey that calls to mind the likes of the Beta Band, Mogwai and Explosions In The Sky; vocalist Reto Wittner crooning dryly in a manner reminiscent of Ian Curtis serenading Nick Cave.
Elsewhere, the duo create similarly dark and intoxicating sounds with the starkly majestic TOGETHER and TRAIN.
A mesmeric and intoxicating duo, King With No Throne make music to lose yourself in.

BIOGRAPHY

The origins of London based, King With No Throne, go back to 2000, when Swiss born, Reto Wittwer and Australian, Kasem Chouja meet in a backpacker hostel in Sydney. After a few jam sessions, a unique sound arose where electrifying guitar riffs bonded with exotic drum rhythms.
The band had their first live performance at a Sydney venue called, The Hopetoun Hotel, under the name, 'Flying Mouse'. The project had two additional band members on bass and keyboards but ended in April, 2002, when the band made new contacts with singer, Daniel Calvo. 'Topenkin', became the name of the new band. For the first time lyrics were sang on top of the already established, 'Flying Mouse', sound. Between 2002 and early 2006, 'Topenkin' or 'Dune', which was the band name after 2005, played many of the familiar Sydney venues and festivals, and the band made its name known amongst underground circles.
In 2006 the group went back to its original line up (Kasem Chouja - drums and Reto Wittwer - guitar, synthesizer and vocals). After going full circle and arriving back to the original point as, 'King With No Throne', which is the bands name today, did just two more gigs in Sydney before venturing to London. On their way to the UK, the band played a show in Switzerland, which was received with warmth and enthusiasm.
King With No Throne, have been described by audiences and critics as being similar to Pink Floyd, The Doors, Massive Attack and The Prodigy. The effect of the music for many is akin to being drawn into a vast dream landscape.
