KARIM FANOUS - PERFUME

"A decent rather than great sounding release; Karim Fanous obviously has the talent and potential, lets just hope he can put it to slightly better use next time round."

Superbug / Perfume / Sometimes

Pitched somewhere between Jeff Buckley and Tom Petty, Karim Fanous is a singer/songwriter based in London who straddles musical genres with mixed results here, on single PERFUME.
The title track PERFUME itself is a decent enough stab at soaring pop/rock; Karim Fanous using his impressive vocal range to delivering a sweeping falsetto on the songs memorable choruses. Those Buckley comparisons coming to the fore here and earmarking Fanous out as a name to watch. Its elsewhere that Karim Fanous falters slightly, as on the weak funk rock lite of SUPERBUG or the dull introspective whine of SOMETIMES, songs that do little to impress.
A decent rather than great sounding release; Karim Fanous obviously has the talent and potential, lets just hope he can put it to slightly better use next time round.

BIOGRAPHY
With influences ranging from AC/DC and The Black Crowes through to Prince and Elvis and even Joni Mitchell and John Coltrane, it was never going to be easy to fit Karim Fanous' sound into one particular genre.
A highly creative, thoughtful and spiritual singer songwriter, Karin is a multi-talented musician; playing in concert bands as well as his solo project.
A regular crowd puller on the London circuit Karim is now spreading his wings across the country with the release of the single PERFUME. Recorded in the summer of 2006 PERFUME is loosely based around his favourite book PERFUME by Patrick Suskind. In Karim's own words:
"the song is about being a prisoner of your own desire."
