YALC Lucio Starts Fires
Another of those hotly tipped indie rock types, Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong are the latest London band to enjoy a wave of press hype and radio play. New single LUCIO STARTS FIRES is your typical indie rock fare, all very Libertines meets The Clash down the local indie disco; Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong certainly knowing their way around a clipped guitar riff, melodic two way harmony and effective pop chorus. Whilst LUCIO STARTS FIRES doesn't really put a foot wrong in the catchy indie pop stakes, its a song that's hard to get that impassioned or excited by either; just your typical by-the-numbers post Libertines pop that struggles to differentiate itself from the endless other post Libertines clones doing the rounds right about now.
BIOGRAPHY
Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong are a five-piece from London, split between Brick Lane in the East End and New Cross dahn sarf. With names like theirs you might be forgiven for taking the Jing Jang Jong as a novelty. But listen to our London Calling track, Lonely Buoy, or any of the group's demo tracks and you'll be wondering why they don't already have a hit album under their belts. Together for only a year, tongue-twisters Joe Lean, Tom D, Dom O'Dare, Panda and Bummer Jong have the kind of polished indie that will leave even the coolest of London's club-goers a mite hot under the collar, not to mention all that "sweat on sweat on lips on lips on sweat". Taking their influences from a cocktail of Kylie pop and 60's garage punk, Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong cross catchy melodies with a songwriting ability that will catch you out, just when you think you can relax. It's really keep-'em-on-their-toes music, which is going to do brilliantly in the clubs this summer. With a constant stream of gigs to look forward to, the band are able to do the odd impromptu cover when the mood takes. It's not a regular part of their set, but they admit they would love to cover Monster Bobby's I Heard You Moved Away.
