It Doesn't Matter / The Break Up / Call On Me SELF RELEASED
A Bournemouth based singer/songwriter, James Parker writes songs that
put him somewhere between Dashboard Confessional and Ben Harper.
These are songs with that smooth singer/songwriter feel but also songs with more of a rock edge than the majority of artists doing the round of late.
Taken from his forthcoming PORTLAND ROAD album, this trio of demo songs finds James Parker showcasing his songwriting skills, opener IT DOESN'T MATTER, an upbeat slice of pop rock thats all crashing power chords and catchy choruses in the Dashboard Confessional/Goo Goo Dolls mould. The softer THE BREAK UP is a more tender piano ballad that imagines an Aerosmith power ballad reinterpreted by Jack Johnson, whilst on CALL ON ME, Parker delivers slick mainstream pop as he croons gruffly over acoustic guitar chords and smooth programmed beats, a slightly unfortunate sounding amalgamation of Nickelback and Dido.
Slick sounding pop rock that's decent rather than great, the PORTLAND ROAD DEMO finds James Parker delivering a trio of songs that showcase him as a singer/songwriter of talent, if a little lacking in invention and attitude.
