ELECTRIC PIG RECORDS
TRACKLISTING Nothing New What Will Lie In Wait Lock And Key Blue Heart Of Mine The Light Bribea Into The Nets Radar The Time That I Let Up

On the one hand, the kind of predictable sounding Radio 2 endorsed sensitive singer/songwriter nonsense that's lately becoming far too over familiar, on the other a genuinely heartfelt and touching collection of songs. It's difficult to know what to make of David Ford, for all his David Gray and James Blunt qualities, there's something else there - a slight sparkle and magic to him, that undefinable edge.
NOTHING NEW skates extremely close to the aforementioned dull predictability of the current singer/songwriter malaise of late, but its when Hara hits a certain line and pulls on your heartstrings that he manages to impress and rise above the competition. WHAT WILL LIE IN WAIT repeats the same tricks, Hara weaving gentle magic from just his dry croon and simple acoustic guitar strokes.
Whilst TAKE US THE FOXES is a record that's steeped in a certain charming magic, you can never quite shake the feeling that it's also a record with a tendency to veer towards the extremely dull at times. Songs like LOCK AND KEY, THE LIGHT and INTO THE NETS are decent acoustic folk affairs, but hardly the most thrilling or exciting material you'll ever get to hear.
It's this middle ground between the magical and the dull that ultimately lends TAKE US TO THE FOXES a slightly forgettable and dreary air, James Hara really needing to hit on a sound more distinctive and daring approach to truly engage. Decent enough, but nothing particularly special, TAKE US TO THE FOXES is a little too average sounding to really shine.
