Hailing from Coventry, ragged and jagged four piece Honey Trap are a band filling in the gaps between Sparks, XTC, the Pixies and Pavement. With their new THE NAKED DANCING EP, they show off an impressive range of sounds and ideas.
Putting a deliciously punk-a-billy spin on indie rock, LET'S DO NAKED DANCING, bursts forth in a frenzy of muted syncopated guitar riffs that threaten to explode at any moment. Galloping drum patterns and a vocal performance that treads the line between genuine menace and whacked out genius, Honeytrap make the transformation from scary goths to infectious pop stars as the song progresses; creating a racket that creeps up on you, scares you and then convinces you of their genius before you have time to blink. The more subdued I DON'T KNOW HOW IT BEGINS delivers a quieter, starkly beautiful experience more akin to Low or Yo La Tengo whilst the jagged pop of SPOTLIGHT finds the band unleashing spiky guitar chords and sharp sounding vocal barks and yelps.
A varied and enthusiastic set of songs, THE NAKED DANCING EP showcases Honeytrap as a band with the ideas to go along with the tunes; a fresh, inspired and exciting new band.
BIOGRAPHY
Honeytrap are a four piece band. 50% of Honeytrap share the biblical name of Daniel. Brother Matthew and Brother Samuel make up the remaining 50%. They are more than the sum of their parts. They have a
37 point plan. They believe:
1. MSN can be detrimental to sexual relationships 2. They will save peoples souls 3. They will be forced to become rentboys to pay for their debut album 4. No one will rent them 5. Love will always win 6. A band is more than one person 7. Milkshake and honey is a recipe for success 8. Danish pastries can be used as a fashion accoutrement 9. No one, apart from their loved ones, can touch them right now 10. They should be huge 11. You can't go wrong with a catchy melody, stern words and some sticky spunk 12.
