Greetings From Georgia are a Derby based four piece who imagine Death Cab For Cutie getting into a drunken tussle with Thursday in the recording studio, whilst Jimmy Eat World man the controls.
With their WHO GOVERNS HERE mini LP, they deliver six songs of wired pop that touches bases with emo, electro, punk and pop; all jerking guitar lurches and melodic melodies. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE is a wonderful starting point for Greetings From Georgia, a collision of art rock guitar jerks, frenetic drum patterns and infectious pop melodies, a little bit art-rock, a tiny bit post-hardcore, a touch of pop, a sprinkling of rock. The bands lead singer opines like Ben Gibbard being vocal coached by Billie Joe Armstrong and Alex Kapranos at the same time on QUESTIONS NEVER ASKED whilst the guitars make awkward jerks and the drums gallop in a frenetic kind of way throughout; managing to sound epic and complex, yet simple and immediate at the same time. DIARIES & DISEASES is a more emotive acoustic number that draws certain comparisons to Brand New or Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, all tender strums and yelping vocal melodies.
Original and distinctive enough to stand out from the crowd, yet familiar enough sounding to fit in with the current crop of new bands breaking through, Greetings From Georgia make an early bid for your adoration and love here. If WHO GOVERNS HERE is an indication of this bands quality control, then the future is looking blindingly bright for Greetings From Georgia.
