Released as their final swansong, APPENDIX brings together twelve remixes from Funkstorung duo Chris De Luca and Michael Fakesch, a compilation that showcases their own unique take on dislocated electronica. With the likes of Bjork, Lamb, Barry Adamson and the Raveonettes given the twisted remix treatment here; APPENDIX reads like a greatest hits collection for Funkstorung, their brand of chilly techno and frosty electronica beating at the heart of affairs here.
Its these artists that provide this records best moments as well, the duos take on the Raveonettes LOVE IN A TRASHCAN a particular highlight, weaving awkward sounding beats amidst the garage rocking guitar riffs and sultry vocals, either set of artists have rarely sounded any better. Tackling Bjork, Funkstorung manage to turn ALL IS FULL OF LOVE into the futuristic hyperballad it was always destined to become whilst with HEAVEN from Lamb, they twist and turn that outfits somewhat dreary by the numbers trip-hop into something unique, beautiful and truly special; surely the mark of a great remix, taking the original and transforming it into something fresh and new.
Nils Petter Molvaer's AXIS OF IGNORANCE is given the full futuristic electronica treatment, all cold blips and bleeps and sparse Detroit techno inspired ambience, elsewhere Towa Tei's LATTE & MACARON is transformed into a militaristic funk whilst SUSTAIN by Lusine ICL finds Funkstorung dipping their toes into the murky waters of drum n bass with impressively dark sounding results. If their take on Beanfield's CLOSE TO YOU is somewhat less than impressive and dull, its perhaps due to the quality elsewhere that the duo can be forgiven the odd misfire. As they climax with the twisted bass driven electronica of Enik's NO FIRE and Richard Devine's SIGSTOP, APPENDIX can be held aloft as a fitting tribute to the work of Funkstorung.
An inspired and impressive sounding final hurrah from Funkstorung, APPENDIX is a welcome reminder of the duo's finest remixes.

BIOGRAPHY
Funkstorung remixed Bjork, Wu-Tang Clan and Jean-Michel Jarre. In addition to their own groundbreaking productions, remixes became Funkstorung's second pillar. In 2001 they released a remix compilation ADDITIONAL PRODUCTIONS. This was followed in 2001 by VICE VERSA, the surprisingly poppy sequel. That was preceded by APPETITE FOR DISCTRUCTION (2000), the first album artist by Funkstorung on which complete development of their own style of broken beats, melodious sound and futurist hi-tech hip hop could be heard. After last year's celebrated tenth Funkstorung anniversary, APPENDIX is their final statement. Chris De Luca and Michael Fakesch decided to disband Funkstorung and will in future dedicate themselves to their solo projects.
