ELENA - GLIMPSE

"GLIMPSE is an album that showcases Elena as a band with the potential to be spectacular; they may not quite have the songs to match the voice yet, but Elena are precariously close to achieving greatness."

DELICIOUS RECORDS

Elena are a band that grab you from the start, crafting songs that draw you in; promising mystery and intrigue.  With a frontwoman possessing the kind of voice you usually only dream about, Elena make a sound thats both achingly sad and breathtakingly optimistic; taking all the best bits from Cerys Matthews, Emiliana Torrini, Bjork and Isabel Monteiro, Elena sings in a voice that veers from husky insistence to soaring exuberance with all the grace and poise you could ever wish for.  It's undoubtedly the voice thats the real distinctive star here, but Elena also occasionally have the songs to make you swoon.  I WANT YOU is a spiky indie pop song, the guitars gently clattering up against insistent drum beats and a pulsing bass line - purring the line "I want you" in breathy anticipation, the sound of a thousand hearts melting in the background.  BUTTERFLIES exhibits a certain gloomy charm with its spiralling guitar lines and powerful drum blasts, a brooding soundscape with definite hints of the epic.  With HERE COMES THE RAIN, Elena indulge themselves in a brooding, slow burning ballad; the band obviously making attempts at some kind of Snow Patrol like stadium rock glory, an epic chorus gluing the whole thing together.
Elsewhere the likes of SATELLITE86 and pretty opener LIGHTS OF TOKYO are songs that play to Elena's obvious strengths; namely that intoxicating voice, the delicately bruised strains of Elena's vocals winning through every time.  LAST NIGHT ON EARTH finds the band broadening their scope a little to include operatic choirs while with the tender piano ballad IN YOUR FACE, they sound not unlike Isabel Monteiro fronting Coldplay.
Closing number WHERE I WANT TO BE is a lush, orchestral power ballad rich in emotional angst; those sublime vocals once again taking centre stage and giving Elena their beating heart and soul.
GLIMPSE is an album that showcases Elena as a band with the potential to be spectacular; they may not quite have the songs to match the voice yet, but Elena are precariously close to achieving greatness.

BIOGRAPHY
2006 saw Elena break into the mainstream of the UK music world. Two successful singles (I Want You & Butterflies) earned Elena widespread critical acclaim.
Elena’s new single, Here Comes the Rain, once again delivers a breathtaking range of hooks and melodies, contrasting gentle vocals and powerful guitars, creating a familiar yet unique sound.
Once again, Elena’s timeless, fashionable retro guitar sound, unmistakable vocals; raw but delicate, instantly captivate, joined with stunning, building guitar hooks.
2007 promises much for the London based band. Currently putting the finishing touches on their debut album, Glimpse which will be released this summer.
Elena gives a gravel throated performance that drips with elegance. This is a rowdy, streamlined stadium filler, which twists and turns around a rumbling agile chorus. - RockCity Undeniably original and positively bewitching with it. A big prospect whose talent has gone largely unnoticed by media and the music industry so far but surely not for much longer. - Record Of The Day Compared to everyone from Marianne Faithful to Cerys from catatonia due to her rough croon. Both comparisions are apt as would the similarities to Coldplay due to her dark, melancholic tunes. Wherever you decide to put her she?ll sit at the top of the pile due to her stunning vocals. An undiscovered gem that has the world at her feet - Planet Loud Elena is that rarest of things in 21st century rock music, a genuine outsider. A rock outfit fronted by one of the most distinctive, charismatic and passionate rock-chick in the world today. Formed in late 2003, Elena signed with indie label Delicious Records in 2004 and started recording a debut album ?Glimpse?, a collection of amazing stadium filler hit singles featuring a timeless fashionable retro guitar sounds. Aside from the sheer quality of the songwriting (sassy, melodic, sinuous and lyrically uncompromising as it is) the most attention-grabbing aspect of Elena?s records, is undoubtedly the remarkable lead singer?s voice; a mercurial creature that can soar like a songbird and then growl like a mountain lion in the merest heartbeat; memorably described in Logo magazine as 'falling somewhere between Alison Goldfrapp?s lupine howl, Marianne Faithfull?s dissolute croon and Chris Martin?s faltering, edge of orgasm stammer.' As you can imagine rare talent plus great songs plus an original voice is a combination that?s not gone unnoticed and Elena immediately attracted the kind of industry excitement that most bands can only dream about music industry bible ?Record Of The Day? recently honored both A & B sides of the single as such on consecutive days! - An almost unprecedented feat for any artist let alone for a comparatively new talent. NME, The Guardian, The Fly and more, soon followed with their reviews.
BUTTERFLIES is the stunning new single from Elena.
Following on from the success earlier this tear of single I WANT YOU.  Elena once again delivers a stunning musical and vocal performance.  BUTTERFLIES once again features the effortless elevating chorus lines that are hallmark of Elena's latest material.

A hypnotic and dark video will also be released to support the single.  Look out for plays on Scuzz, Musicians Channel and many more.
