WALL OF SOUND TRACKLISTING Make A Choice (Edit) Depression Yesterdays (Demo)
Presenting a sound like Beck before he discovered a love of hip-hop beats and cosmic reinvention, instead harbouring a massive love of the Beatles White Album and early Pink Floyd, Dylan Donkin is a San Francisco by way of Hawaii singer/songwriter who could well be the next darling of the nu-folk scene. MAKE A CHOICE is about as tranquil and laid back as you could hope for without descending into dreary Jack Johnson esque territory, Donkin wise enough to know that you need some intrigue, mystery and other worldliness to your music to truly enthral. Sharing a similar musical vision to Super Furry Animals mainman Gruff Rhys' recent solo forays, Dylan Donkin ploughs the same paths here; his lo-fi acoustic folk wrapped up in dreamy psychedelia and sixties era pure pop pastiche. Intriguing enough to suggest an experimental edge, yet easy going and melodic enough to also suggest massive mainstream appeal, MAKE A CHOICE introduces Dylan Donkin as an artist who deserves and demands to be heard; sounding infinitely more heartfelt and genuine than the majority of singer-songwriters crowding the market lately.
BIOGRAPHY
Dylan Donkin hails from a small valley region on Maui’s north shore at the edge of a rainforest. On any given day, Dylan can be found debating the finer points of The White Album while perched upside down in a bizarre yogic pose. If he could reach it, he'd probably be punctuating his phrases with chords on the piano too. With a record collection a mile long, the singer/guitarist absorbs music like water on a hot sidewalk. He draws from an eclectic array of influences (ranging from Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith to Neil Young and Pink Floyd) to forge tunes that are distinctive and original, yet strangely familiar. His wailing vocals and layers of harmony carry straight out of the atmosphere. Originally from San Francisco, Dylan followed his muse to the middle of the Pacific where he finds inspiration everyday in the tranquility of the Islands.
