Back Francis deliver a consistently urgent message and sound within Bluefinger; which is coupled together with a punky core and various elements of classic and contemporary genres, but which still essentially stands clear as a rock album. The lyrics entwine themselves cleverly around inviting guitar riffs and one intense and distinctive voice, which at times could rival light for its speed, and at other times is seen to slow right down in contemplation whilst a storyteller emerges. Stand out tracks include the memorable, highly strung, and insistent Threshold Apprehension; which may spur the individual on to rise from their office chair, undo their tie and adopt a ‘London Calling’ stance with their office furniture. Also the melodic and Beatles-esc Discotheque 36; which channels a more reflective and relaxed voice from the beating heart of a sixties fantasy. A true 1990’s Indie feel can be seen to feature in She Took All The Money; a rhythmic and poppy tune that will leave even the most serious of listeners closing the CD case singing “sham a lang a ding dang’, and wondering how (after they recommend this album to their friends) they will go about describing it. Definitely worth the money is a great way to start…

Bluefinger is the first album under the Black Francis name, and was released in September 2007 on the Cooking Vinyl label.
