Further consolidating their position as global rock stars in the waiting, Glasgow pop rockers Biffy Clyro return with new album PUZZLE; the fruits of their work with big names GGArth Richardson and Andy Wallace, whose previous credits include Nirvana, Foo Fighters and System Of A Down.  Biffy Clyro are taking no prisoners here; unleashing stadium slaying hard rock prowess; you can almost smell the money dripping from the high gloss production sheen here.
Confident opener LIVING IS A PROBLEM BECAUSE EVERYTHING DIES starts with a bombastic opening section that touches on prog rock excess, Biffy Clyro soon getting down to business as usual; melding sky rocketing pop melodies to buffed up guitar rock, the band sounding on world beating form; baroque angelic choirs and all.  The equally impressive sounding SATURDAY SUPERHOUSE finds Biffy Clyro well and truly buffed and primed for mainstream rock success in 2007; a masterclass in modern rock histrionics, big beefy guitar chords, super melodic choruses and the faint aroma of cold electronica, basically the sounds of My Chemical Romance, Nirvana, Jimmy Eat World and At The Drive In thrown together in an industrial sized blender and spat out in an attention grabbing slice of post-hardcore bliss.  The impossibly catchy WHO'S GOT A MATCH proves the bands radio friendly radio chops off in fine style whilst the tender AS DUST DANCES indicates their Snow Patrol esque ambition, the sound of ten thousand cigarette lighters held aloft on a warm festival evening.
The likes of A WHOLE CHILD AGO and THE CONVERSATION IS... are further examples of bold radio friendly modern rock, the kind of songs that thrust bands kicking and screaming into full blown global stardom.  On SEMI-MENTAL, thrusting vicious stabs of guitar noise bustle amidst violent drum crashes, Biffy Clyro managing to sound like Jimmy Eat World given some life lessons by Motorhead and recorded on a bouncy castle by Ian MacKaye. Smart enough to know that you need some sizeable pop hooks amongst your jerky guitar noise, Biffy Clyro go about mixing hardcore, indie and bubblegum pop here, an impossibly catchy tune set to blistering guitar noise, an attention grabbing slice of post-hardcore bliss and violent guitar riffs.
Perhaps their finest moment to date, PUZZLE finds Biffy Clyro at the top of their game, this is an immense sounding album from a band who keep going from strength to strength.  An accomplished and satisfying return, PUZZLE finds Biffy Clyro on thunderous form; don't bet against 2007 belonging to them.

BIOGRAPHY
Formed in 1999 by Simon Neil (vocals, guitar) and the brothers Ben (drums, vocals) and James Johnston (bass, vocals) in Ayrshire, near Glasgow, biffy clyro's debut album BLACKENED SKY was released in 2002 and became one of the sleeper hits of the year. Follow up THE VERTIGO OF BLISS followed in 2003 and was recorded in just one day, capturing the explosive energy of the live shows that keep fans coming back time after time, and makes their fanbase the most dedicated in the UK. The band's third album INFINITY LAND was released in November 2004.
Recorded in Vancouver with veteran producer Garth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Kerbdog), mixed in New York by Andy Wallace (Nirvana, At The Drive In) and with artwork by Storm Thurgusson (Pink Floyd, Muse), PUZZLE marks biffy clyro's transformation into a truly world-beating band. It also sees them anchor some of their most outlandish ideas with clear and crisp melodies, packing an emotional punch with 24-carat choruses shot through with biffy's trademark sideways approach to songwriting.
"We've always been very ambitious in the music we wanted to make," says Simon. "It was never just about guitars bass and drums, even though we're a three piece. On our records we've always tried to use as much weird shit as possible."
