Teaming up with Andy Lewis for his latest foray into Mod induced soul, Paul Weller returns here with ARE YOU TRYING TO BE LONELY?

Either sounding like a long lost Northern soul classic or a cliched pastiche on the genre, depending on your particular point of view, ARE YOU TRYING TO BE LONELY? is an immediately familiar sounding affair. Centred around an infectious horn riff that sounds naggingly over familiar, this is Weller firmly back in his soul boy territory, crooning gruffly over the Northern soul backing to familiar but effective results. Of the various extra songs here, TELL ME ONCE AGAIN THAT YOU LOVE ME is a lolloping neo funk affair that imagines Beck grooving along to Booker T And The MG's, whilst the hammond driven THE LAZULI AFFAIR continues the EP's theme of over familiar yet ultimately satisfying results.

ARE YOU TRYING TO BE LONELY? finds Andy Lewis & Paul Weller deliver a sound that whilst resolutely over familiar and almost cliched, still manages to charm and delight in equal measure.

Andy Lewis met Paul Weller whilst acting as backline tech for the band Dogs. Paul had heard of Andy's album of 2005, "Billion Pound Project", and had liked what he had heard. When asked what he was up to at the moment, Andy pressed upon Paul a CD of works in progress. One of the tunes stood out, a soul-inspired stomper with a nagging horn riff and a gut-wrenching key change. A late night phone call, a few trips to a studio in deepest Surrey and a large number of light ales later, Acid Jazz records is proud to present "Are You Trying To Be Lonely?". Featuring one of the strongest vocals from Weller in many a year, it's the first single to be taken from the new album from Andy Lewis, "You Should Be Hearing Something Now!".
