ANDREA WILDE - STONER

"A decent sounding opening shot from Andrea Wilde, she may struggle to rise above the obvious influences here but delivers a trio of snappy sounding pop tunes nonetheless."

Sounding like an edgier, grittier version of KT Tunstall; Andrea Wilde is a singer/songwriter heading in similar pop directions but coming from a more PJ Harvey/Patti Smith/Blondie direction. Its a slicker sounding version of these influences however, PJ Harvey raised on mainstream pop radio and Pop Idol perhaps.
For all the garage rock colour and dirty guitar riffs, the music that Andrea Wilde makes is a radio friendly and slickly produced affair; thrilling in places, but shot through with a certain restraint and controlled chaos.
STONER rides along on slinky guitar riffs and staggered drum patterns, Wilde purring her way through the song like a talented PJ Harvey impersonator.
EVERYBODY WANTS SOME feels like a more naturalistic take on things, Andrea Wilde injecting more individuality and spice into proceedings; bubblegum pop with a dirty garage rock edge, handclaps, rousing choruses and riffs galore.
The tender SUNBURN makes a beeline for acoustic ballad territory, all pretty melodies and restraint before launching into a Killers meets Echobelly slice of electro/indie rock.
A decent sounding opening shot from Andrea Wilde, she may struggle to rise above the obvious influences here but delivers a trio of snappy sounding pop tunes nonetheless.

Have you ever believed that life is just one big coincidence that certain decisions influence the choices you make and what pathway you may take?
Well Andrea Wilde does - thrust into the spotlight on acclaimed TV show Young Gifted and Broke this was how she met her manager and subsequently got onto the music industry carousel.
An accomplished singer songwriter since the age of 15 and with a voice that could be compared to Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs mixed with some raw attitude reminiscent of Republica's lead singer Saffron. Her debut release, STONER merely hints at Andrea's mesmerising vocals that can range from folky purrs to the energy and immediacy of garage rock howls laced with catchy guitar hooks and driving bass lines accompanied by Gaelic / tribal undertones.
Track 2 is the upbeat EVERYBODY WANTS SOME, with its refreshing chorus and killer hooks, could easily be one of the gems of this summer. The package also contains SUNBURN - melodic, enchanting and infectious - a track that her ever-growing audience on Myspace can't get enough of.
Influenced as much by her Dads taste in music, from Siouxsie and the Banshees and Blondie to latter day contemporaries such as Eva Cassidy, PJ Harvey and KT Tunstall, Andreas music is a distinctive brand of raw, honest lyrics that talk about her life experiences and surroundings delivered in the guise of the perfect 3 minute pop song. Laced with pearls of wisdom that shows some insight into her belief in fate, karma and one of her favourite books, The Celestine Prophecy.
Having worked with some of London's finest producers and gigging regularly across the Capital, both acoustically and with her full band behind her, Andrea with her distinctive style coupled with an amazing vocal presence is cementing her place as one of the most exciting female vocalists to emerge in 2006, the female fronted rock revival continues!
