AMY WINEHOUSE@EDEN PROJECT, CORNWALL

" Tonight though, this was a disappointing and lacklustre performance from Amy Winehouse and a definite low point for the Eden Sessions."

Amidst all the controversy and the countless will she won't she turn up rumours surrounding pop diva Amy Winehouse's performance at this years Eden Sessions, its hard to shake the feeling that tonight was just a bit dull and lifeless. Sure, watching an obviously drunk pop star hit herself over the head with a microphone, swear a bit and generally look confused and on the verge of some kind of breakdown makes for a kind of car crash entertainment; but running through her songs with a total lack of enthusiasm doesn't exactly result in a riveting evenings entertainment.
Songs like BACK IN BLACK, YOU KNOW I'M NO GOOD and REHAB are all given an airing, Winehouse plodding through the motions onstage; definite crowd pleasers most nights, but tonight greeted with only muted appreciation, an audience clearly as bemused and unenthused as the performer. With constant disappearances offstage and a general sense of confusion amongst her band, tonight will unfortunately go
down as one of the few Eden Sessions performances to disappoint.
Rounding up the evening by introducing each of her ten band members individually and giving each of them a solo whilst sat on the drum riser, Amy Winehouse climaxed with perhaps the nights only real standout moment, a spirited run through the Zutons VALERIE; at least ending things on something of a highpoint. Tonight though, this was a disappointing and lacklustre performance from Amy Winehouse and a definite low point for the Eden Sessions.
