Flavor Of The Weak
Flavor Of The Weak (Main Stream Radio)
Vertigo (Demo)
MERCURY RECORDS
This is yet another American pop/punk band in the vein of
Blink 182 and Green Day, but the major difference is that
American Hi-Fi sound fresh and exciting, unlike the by the
numbers likes of Blink 182.
Flavor Of The Weak Starts off on a heavy guitar riff that
could almost fool you into thinking you are listening to another
nu-metal band, but this soon gives way to the sugar sweet
pop rush of the vocals. This is the bands winning element,
combining the staples of punk and metal and marrying it with
70’s AM rock radio sensibilities, and this all results
in an extremely radio friendly pop song.
Also thrown into the mix is a blistering guitar solo and the
master touch of rhyming “too stoned” with “Nintendo”
is close to genius.
The main stream radio version of the track takes the song
and adds even more catchy elements to it, like shimmering
guitar riffs, which only add to the tracks radio friendly
potential. The demo of Vertigo is another catchy punk/pop
tune, this time with glam rock guitar stabs and drums, and
shows that the band should be more than one hit wonders.
There’s a lot of this type of music around, but American
Hi-Fi, sound like they are genuinely excited to be doing it
and that goes a long way in today’s increasingly cynical
musical climate. Flavor Of The Weak sounds great and literally
jumps out of the speakers and grabs you around the neck with
its catchy melodies and hooks.
