Representing
Chicago dark pop-punksters Alkaline Trio's latest stab at
infiltrating the mainstream success of Green Day or the Offspring,
BURN is the latest single to be taken from
the impressive sounding CRIMSON album.
Nothing too groundbreaking here, a raft of bouncy powerchords
and catchy choruses - this is business as usual. Matt Skiba
still delivering his trademarked dark lyricism over the usual
pop punk moving and shaking. It's the remixes that are the
real stars though, Rancid mainman Tim Armstrong's ska tinged
makeover injecting fresh life and vigour into proceedings
whilst 65 Days Of Static's drum n bass reinvention proves
that there's still exciting new directions for both punk and
dance left to move in.
In essence, a pretty average sounding single bouyed along
by some inspired remixes - BURN proves a worthwhile, if not
essential purchase.
