THE ALICE BAND - One Day At A
Time
From the opening jingly-jangly, Byrds like guitar chords and
squeaky-clean vocals; you can smell the big money production
sheen on this record. New female pop act, The Alice Band will
fit nicely into the ready-made market alongside similar bands
like The Corrs or Dido. This is bland, middle of the road
and soulless pop music that should appeal to the same fan
base for inoffensive and boring melodic sounds, with its sweet
melodies and tried and tested formula. One Day At A Time has
sweet melodies in abundance, but they're instantly forgettable
and boring. This is a carbon copy of a Corrs song, minus the
Irish flutes and fiddles. The real problem with this single
is that throughout the course of the songs, there's not one
moment when they sound genuinely excited or passionate about
the music they are playing, it's as if this is a boring day
job and not a pop song. Your Eyes, is more of the same sound,
all slick production but no passion or sense of excitement
in the music. And just to prove that they can actually sing
and aren't just some manufactured act, there's an accapella
version of Neil Young's, After The Goldrush, tacked on at
the end to prove their credentials. This is boring, throwaway
and bland pop music.
