AALIYAH – We Need A Resolution
This is the first single from the new self-titled album from rising r&b superstar, Aaliyah. Following on from her big film role in hit movie, Romeo Must Die and the hit single from the same film, this is her first new material in a while. This Timbaland produced single, We Need A Resolution has the producer’s fingerprints all over it, from the stuttering stop-start beats, to dark infectious samples and hooks. Best known for his work with Missy Elliott, Timbaland has created another slice of dark and adventurous r&b, steering clear of other more mainstream acts like Destiny’s Child. Aayliah is also adventurous enough to go with this darker and more experimental sound, and in doing so has distanced herself enough from the competition to stand out and be counted, also creating a cool sounding single. Messed Up is a similar sounding track, with a repeated and overlapping chorus that builds nicely, although it lacks the edge of the Timbaland produced track. But he’s back on board for the Missy Elliott penned, Are You Feeling Me?. Although this does come across a bit like a younger clone of Missy, that’s not a bad thing to be. We Need A Resolution is a cool sounding single, full of cold as steel beats and vocals that should see Aaliyah continuing her rise to superstar status.
