Sugababes - One Touch
"The album ends with "Run for Cover", another good

Sugababes - One Touch
track listings
Sugababes are the latest in a
long line of new girl bands to come along in the wake of the
Spice Girls/All Saints explosion. With the likes of Atomic
Kitten, Girl Thing and Honeyz all fighting for the crown in
the inevitable aftermath of the breakups of these bands.
We start off with the fantastic debut single, "Overload",
all dark funky beats, cool sounding vocals and dirty guitar
sounds, they come across like a more sugar rush version of
Sneaker Pimps or Morcheeba, it kicks off the album in fine
style.
Second track, "One Foot in", shows the girls soulful
side with a cool bass line and soulful harmonies, a surefire
future single. Unfortunately things soon start to go downhill
with three distinctly average ballads, with only, "Just
Let it Go", standing out with its Latin guitar sounds
crossed with stop start beats. Luckily things pick up again
with "Soul Sound", surely a huge future hit, with
its great melodies and indie guitar sounds. It shows how great
, good pop music can be in the right hands. "Soul Sound"
comes across like the song Natalie Imbruglia is waiting for
to kick start her career back into action, it nearly makes
up for the averageness of the next two tracks, another couple
of sub All Saints mediocre filler. Christmas single, next
year follows, a pretty sounding ballad, with all the ingredients
to be a Christmas hit.
The album ends with "Run for Cover", another good
tune, this time with orchestral flourishes and piano that
hits you in the face with its huge choruses and ends the album
on a positive note. In the end then, some very good songs
and some very average songs. The likes of "overload"
and "soul sound" hint at a promising future that
should then rise above the glut of girl bands doing the rounds
at the moment.
A good album, let down by some weak sounding songs.
