Feeder are from the Brit-Rock heritage of power pop/punk/rock bands that plays simple, good honest pop tunes. Buck Rogers is a resolutely angst-free affair, with lyrics like "he's got a brand new car/looks like a jaguar" and "get a house in Devon/drink cider from a lemon" they aren't exactly Jean Paul Sartre quoting art school intellectuals, and all the better for it. With their slickly produced guitar rock sound, that's not a million miles away from bands like Terrorvision and Ash, Feeder look likely to be big news in 2001, Buck Rogers has already had substantial radio play and is a cracking tune that well deserves to put them in the higher reaches of the charts. We are electronic is a more punkoid rock noise, that still manages to be pop in all the right places, while 21st century meltdown is a slower beatlesy affair with dancey beats and great vocals. You could argue that feeder, with their inane schoolyard lyrics and simple rhymes, have nothing important to say, but the simple fact of the matter is that they write great tunes with hooks and melodies. Just listen to Buck Rogers a couple of times and try to get it out of your head. This is great fun pop, pop, pop the way it should be.
