Chance's are, that you've already
heard Dido, even if you don't know it, either from the backing
track to Eminem's recent number one, Stan, or maybe from the
theme song to the American teen sci-fi drama, Roswell High.
The album starts off with the Roswell High theme, "Here
with Me", with "Blade Runner" sound effects,
electro beats and acoustic guitars - it starts the album off
nicely enough, nice tune, inoffensive, but nice enough.
The only problem is that the rest of the songs are all much
the same, acoustic guitars, electro drumbeats, folksy vocals.
There's nothing necessarily wrong with it, it's all pleasant
in a Sunday morning hazy kind of way, but there's nothing
really essential or exciting about it.
There are a few tracks that stand out slightly from the rest,
"Don't Think, All You" and "Slide" have
a bit of energy about them. Obviously, "Thank You",
(You know the Eminem one) jumps out at you, probably due to
the constant radio play for the last six months but after
the familiar first verse you're left with the entire song,
and you realise its best left as a sample on a decent record.
Last track, "Take My Hand" starts of in the same
vein as the rest of the album before going off into dance
anthems territory, but this still can't disguise the fact
that its dull, dull, dull.
All the way through the album, you find yourself just wanting
to hear something to make it rise above its own mediocrity,
unfortunately it never comes.
In the end then, its a nice enough album, nothing exciting
or new, just average. One to fit alongside the Corrs, David
Grey, and Jewel.
