At the Drive In - Rolodex Propaganda
" With lyrics like "fanatic paralysis affected through morality/the CIA nurtured was a wilted bouquet" you realise that this isn't exactly Oasis type sing along fare, the singer sounding like he can't think of enough words to sing so he'll just shout as many as he can as quickly as possible"

At the Drive In - Rolodex Propaganda

track listings

The minute you put this song on it just rips out from your speakers with pure energy and passion, reminding you of the excitement you felt on hearing Bleach by Nirvana for the first time or The Ramones. The immediacy and high octane power of the music is fantastic, recently when they played a set on Later with Jools Holland, they raced through a blistering version of this song, leaving a dazed Robbie Williams left to follow with one of his banal piano ballads, showing up the lack of passion and real emotion in, sadly, the majority of today's bloated and money driven music scene. The song itself is all discordant guitar shapes, vocals spat out rather than sung and electronic sounds propelled by pounding drums. With lyrics like "fanatic paralysis affected through morality/the CIA nurtured was a wilted bouquet" you realise that this isn't exactly Oasis type sing along fare, the singer sounding like he can't think of enough words to sing so he'll just shout as many as he can as quickly as possible. At the Drive In are probably one of the most exciting live bands to come out of America in a while and luckily this energy comes across in their records. Iggy Pop doing backing vocals is also a nice touch, his sneering vocals adding even more attitude to a song brimming with more than enough. Extracurricular is more of the same, recalling the sound of seminal punk band Fugazi, a short sharp bombardment of the senses. Also included is an alternative version of previous single, the punk pop assault, One-armed scissor. Amazingly Rolodex Propaganda isn't even the best thing to be found on their latest album, Relationship of Command from which it's lifted. It would be great to hear this on the radio between the usual daytime fare, but unfortunately looks unlikely, still, buy the single, buy the album, and make them stars.
