Amen - The Price of
Reality
track listings
Amen seem to be from a long line
of angry shock-rock bands coming out of America at the moment.
But unlike similar band Marilyn Manson, they lack the energy,
intelligence and most importantly tunes. The first thing that
hits you when you listen to any of the songs on this four
track EP is how dated and unoriginal they sound, they could
have been around in the mid eighties with the likes of Iron
Maiden. With shouted lyrics like "abortion holiday"
and "razors and knifes" rhyming with "ending
my life", they don't have the intended shock value, rather
they sound like uninspired sixth form poetry. Lead singer
Casey Chaos has a vocal range that shifts between sounding
like Marilyn Manson, Jello Biafro and Bruce Dickinson but
sadly he never seems to find his own style. Amen will probably
go on to be hugely successful in the rock scene at the moment
along with bands like Slipknot and X-Static, with The Price
of Reality propelling them upwards. But being successful is
never going to change the fact that as soon as one of these
songs finishes, you'll be hard pressed to remember anything
about it. I'm sure that Amen are all really, really angry
at something and have issues with the world, and think that
screaming about them over recycled metal riffs is a worthwhile
thing to do. But next time remember to write some tunes.
